How to make the Mac Dock hide and show faster
A hidden Dock gives your windows more room, but it waits a moment before it slides in. Two Terminal commands make it appear right away.
Hide the Dock
Open System Settings, click Desktop & Dock and turn on “Automatically hide and show the Dock”. Or press Option-Command-D.
Remove the delay
Open Terminal (Command-Space, type Terminal, press Return), paste this line and press Return:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 0; killall Dock
Now the Dock starts to slide in as soon as your pointer reaches the edge.
Speed up the animation
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -float 0.15; killall Dock
The number is how long the slide takes. 0 turns the animation off, so the Dock simply appears.
Undo it
defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-delay; defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier; killall Dock
A shorter Dock helps too
When the Dock pops up, a short one is easier to scan. Group the apps you rarely open into a folder: how to make app folders in the Mac Dock.
